User Reviews about Sony MRW620 U1 181 Internal 17 in 1 Memeory Card Reader Writer

I purchased this reader for a computer I recently built. The reader fits nicely in my Ultra X-blaster case (3.5" drive opening) and the connection cable was more than long enough to reach the motherboard USB header. Having an internal reader also freed-up an external USB port and also eliminated cable clutter and wasted desk space inherent in an external reader.
Running Windows 7 (32 bit), the reader appeared to be plug-n-play but the USB port did not work on the first try. I ran a driver update scan tool and it said the Windows driver is outdated but for some reason the USB port started working the next day. I primarily use the reader to transfer photos from an SD card to my hard drive and so far, it works flawlessly. -- Nice priced internal reader
Piece of cake to install, recognizes and reads quickly and quietly, works like a charm with Win7. It definetely reads faster than my external Kingston multi card reader. I bought an inexpensive 5 1/4 bay adapter and looks nice in it.

I hope Sony releases a similar product but with USB 3.0, it would be great! -- Simple and functional
I installed this device in my server case running Windows 2008 Enterprise (64-bit). The device was recognized and booted no problem, which I would expect. USB card readers have been around for at least 5-6 years now and USB has become so ubiquitous there would really be no excuse for getting it wrong. However the cable is WAY too short. I can only guess there must be other folks who have server cases without front-panel USB access built in that motivate them to buy such a device. Those folks should beware. In my system I was forced by the unreasonably short length of the cable to put this Reader/Writer at the absolute closest bay to the USB header on my MB, which is the lowest and least convenient bay to access on the front panel. Even having made this accommodation the cable is taut, and I suspect after sufficient hours of usage will short out because the slight vibrations in the case will eventually wear away the insulation where it bends around one of the internal metal supports in the case. I can't estimate how long the will take, but since the drive works, it wasn't worth the hassle of trying multilpe models to find one that also worked, and had a longer cable. -- Less than a quarter inch away from having to return it!
