User Reviews about SCM SCR3340 - SMART card reader - ExpressCard 54
This is a GREAT product. I had an external card reader already and when I got this and hooked it up it was automatically activated and worked with my CAC card perfectly. I can get emails, do travel claims. Anything I can do at work I can do at home. Now if they can figure out a way to make the server accessible I'll be in business. I'd never have to go to work. That's probably why they don't. -- Great Card Reader
I use an XPS M1530 to RAS into my corporate network from home. I had been using the standard USB smartcard reader but it was a pain to carry around. Everytime I packed my stuff for a trip, I'd have to remember to pack the reader as well. Even while at home, there was always the USB cable dangling around the laptop. I had been on the lookout for something like this and when I saw this at an affordable price, I took the bait.
I am extremely happy with the purchase, and it seems like a no-brainer now. I plugged in the reader into the slot and Windows 7 automatically installed the necessary drivers. Has been working flawlessly since. A side effect of that is that one of my USB ports is now free.
100% recommended to anyone who uses a smart card often.
-- Money well spent
This was exactly what I needed. I own a Dell Inspiron Laptop, which has an ExpressCard expansion slot. So this was one of the few smart card readers I could choose from. Upon purchasing it, I expected to have to find the driver in order to use it. But to my surprise, as soon as I installed it, XP instantly recognized it. This was one of the easiest installs I have ever performed. I highly recommend it. -- Simple Plug & Play
I'm active duty military. I got it to primarily get on webmail and DTS (it works on Air Force Portal too). It works fine with Windows 7 Premium on my Dell Studio XPS 16. Although the operation system "fails to install" to each time I insert the reader, I just ignore the prompt, and it'll still work.
My military ID fits pretty snug in the slot, so tight that when I pull out my CAC, the reader comes out with the card as well. It may annoy some, but I don't mind because I don't constantly insert and withdraw my CAC all day long. It's for my personal notebook when I'm traveling. -- Works on DoD (CAC) Common Access Cards
The card reader works great. I ove being able to access AKO with my CAC now -- Works Great
